Stop Plagiarism!

The highlight for our week's topic was about writing bibliographies.  The purpose of such bibliographies is to give credits to those persons of whom we borrowed ideas and knowledge from.  Our teacher made emphasis on the case of plagiarism, commonly among students, which involves stealing of someone else ideas and making it their own.  Everybody should be aware of the possible consequences of this criminal assault!

Plagiarism is considered to be a mere theft of another persons ideas.  However, this can be avoided by making citations and references from the sources of such data and putting it all in the bibliography of the term paper. As discussed in the class, we are going to have a guide for writing the correct format of the references we have gathered from books, journals, magazines, periodicals, and internet sources.  Ma'am Lynnie required us to follow the APA (American Psychological Association) Style of citing the sources.  This APA format is widely used in public documentations.

Next meeting, we are going to have an activity about writing bibliographies in the APA Format.  I'm looking forward to it because I am certain that this is going to be fun! The activity will be time bound! (wh00o, I feel the pressure!)

Reminder: Bring manila paper, a marker pen, and masking tape.

Strictly, NO MATERIALS, NO PARTICIPATION!

Reaction Essay: The Cory Aquino Monument Stands

Long live the Filipino democracy!

Though I was still in my father's imagination during the time of Marshall Law, I could tell that what the late former President Corazon Aquino had contributed to this country is not a negligible fact to ignore.  What I want to say that the monument built for her is worth it.  She was been a mother to our country during the times when we were striving to escape from those abuses of human rights.  However, one thing I want to clear is that God is above all these struggles that we had surpassed and the trials we are fighting now. Cory is just an instrument of the Father to save us Filipinos. Thus, we admired Cory for her legacy but the true praise should be lifted up to heaven. Cory herself was a faithful Christian who put Jesus Christ above all else.  She even believed in the power of prayer.  Now, for once in the Philippine history, we have had a president who was indeed an example of an admirable faithful follower of  Jesus.

She flashes the "Laban!" (Fight!) sign on her right hand while holding up the 1987 Constitution on the other.  Her legacy to the Filipinos lives forever.  Yes, the Cory Aquino monument beams with the hopes and dreams of the Philippine nation as one light.

In commemoration of the 77th birthday anniversary of the late former president Corazon "Cory" Aquino, the 15-foot bronze statue of her as the Mother of Philippine Democracy was unveiled on Monday, January 25, 2010.  It was built to honor Aquino as the mother who led the Filipino people out from the aristocratic rule of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos.  The monument is placed right beside her husband, Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, on Roxas Boulevard and Padre Burgos Drive across the Manila Hotel.

Cory is yellow.  Yellow stands for freedom and courage.  Her undying love for the Filipinos was absolutely immeasurable.  Like a mother who only wanted what is best for her child, Cory is just a symbol of an unconditional mother's love.  The Mother of Democracy, a fitting tribute indeed, proved that not only did she perform as family mother, but also a mother of the whole crying nation.  She was an inspiration and the living symbol of a faith that never halters even if times are extremely hopeless for those who suffer.  During Marshall Law, Filipinos were called a nation of cowards.  We were ruled by people who hungers power. Yet Cory changed that perception.  Leading the People Power Revolution, she enlightened the views of the people that there's the power of faith - faith in ourselves, faith in our democratic values, and  faith in God.

Now, we have that monument of Cory as the reminder to every Filipino that it is high time to emerge as one democratic children of this nation in words and in deeds.  In life, we start to mature and accept responsibilities after we sever the umbilical cord that brought the undefined connection to our mother.   She bestowed us the power of independence and gave us the inheritance of faith but the first step begins within us.  The decision is ours to make.  Do you have the courage to pursue what the mother of democracy has started?

Business: My Chosen Field

We are now starting the preliminary steps for term paper writing, about the specific topic with its thesis statement.  In the past two weeks, each of us was asked to choose a specific topic in relation with our field.  As belonging to the College of Business Administration and Accountancy, my topic should be about business or just something about accountancy.

Scanning through my books in my major accountacy subjects, the Basic Accounting and Partnership and Corporation by Win Ballada, I came up with my final specific topic: The difference between partnership and corporation forms of business.  Since I am still in my first year, I am  not yet exposed to how the business world works.  That is why I selected a topic of which I have known and studied.  We were also advised by Ma'am Lynnie to have a topic that is familiar and of our interest.  One cannot write well if he doesn't like the topic to be discussed.

The reason that I preferred this topic because I want to know more about the difference of these two forms of business.  I want to read more about their variations from different sources and authors.  Though some authors have similar explanations about the differences, they still vary in a likely manner.  A few might have such differences that are not found in the others.

I spent time in the library looking for my possible sources.  Luckily, I found eleven books published by different authors.  I also tried browsing for online sources and I got three.  Yet, I still need more sources because the more sources I got, the better I can distinguish partnership from corporation and vice versa.  I just hope that this is going to be an interesting research.

Asking for a Consideration

We were done with our prelim exam in English 2 for the second semester.  But unfortunately, some of us were not able to finish the exam because it was time pressured.  We started at about 11 o’clock so there’s only one hour left.
The part that I haven’t finished was in the “Writing a composition” in Test IV.  I was asking the proctor to give us more time.  But he reasoned out that the next class will be using the room.  So even if we’re unfinished answering, he would still be collecting it.  I made a suggestion to look for another room vacant or we can have it outside with him if there’s no other choice.  It was almost 12 noon when I started my composition writing.  And when the time’s up, I have only written one sentence for my composition and that’s my topic sentence.
On Thursday, the day for our prelim, Ma’am Lynnie was not around because she was busy with some works at the English Department.  Instead, she sent a proctor to conduct our preliminary exam.
I can say that the exam was not that difficult though.  Yet, it was a short of time.  After we passed our test papers, almost all of my classmates, including me, felt depressed because we didn’t have enough time to finish the exam.  However, there was a bit of relief when the proctor announced that he will ask Ma’am Lynnie to consider our lack of time.
With a feeling of optimism, I hope that there will be a consideration about our concern. Please…
Please Ma’am… (^.^)

How's My Vocabulary?

This week welcomed me with a punch!

Ma’am Lynnie introduced to the class a collection of sensory words or the SENSORY WORD BINS.  Yup! They are words that express the senses of normal human beings such as taste, smell, sound, sight, and touch.

I think the purpose of that was to check on our vocabulary, especially my vocabulary.  If you’ll ask me if I am good at that, then the answer is no.  I am not really that good at words.  I easily ran out of it when I write.  Though I like to read novels, magazine and short stories, I still don’t have enough investments of words, especially those that are used to describe.

However, I encourage myself to remember the new words that I encounter every time I read.  Not just remembering it but also knowing what it means.

PS:  I should improve my vocabulary.

My First Experience

As the ship arrived at the middle of the coastal waters of Siasi, Sulu, I was overwhelmed by the beautiful view all over the place.  The vastness of the blue sea was filled with gleaming clear waters that surround the two opposite mountains of the east and west.  The surface of the twin mountains was covered by green forest lush which was getting darker in color as dusk approached the sky.  A combination of pink and orange clouds dominates the heavens as the sun set.

After an hour of wondering the pulchritude sceneries, the ship had finally made its way to the port of Sulu.  To my surprise, we were not to exit at the main door of the ship.  Instead, we used a rope at the side of the ship to help us go down from the first deck of the ship to the pump boat.  Thank God it was only two meters high.

That was my first time to step on a pump boat.  The boat swiftly rocked as I dropped my weight onto it.  I struggled a bit but then I was helped by the man who was maneuvering the boat.  After I and my three relatives were seated on the boat, the man turned on the motor and drove us to the place where my relatives live.

As we sailed across the sea, the damp zephyr of the waters touched my face.  It has a smell of salt and fish with it.  The breeze cooled down and I began to shiver.  The wind was cold so I decided to put my jacket on.

I felt sleepy and exhausted so I leaned on the shoulder of my aunt.  It was been a long trip.
